SAND – Sarilhos Grandes Between Two Worlds
Historical, archaeological and bio-anthropological study of a riverine population
In the sand (geological formation designated by Areias de Santa Marta) of Sarilhos Grandes, in 2008, a necropolis was excavated during a SIMARSUL construction project, which allowed the exhumation of 21 burials and six ossuaries.
Since then a multidisciplinary team of experts in Archeology, Anthropology, Biology, Paleoparasitology and Botany has studied the results of the 2008 excavation.
In 2018 a new phase of the project was proposed - SAND - that aims to carry out a field-school of Archeology and Anthropology to collect new data, supported by an historical and archival research.
